What are heat applied transfers?

A heat applied transfer allows you to transfer an image from a piece of paper onto a shirt in a matter of  a few seconds using a heat transfer press. There are a few different types of heat transfers.

Top Heat Transfer Processes
1. Screen Printed Plastisol Transfers

Screen printed transfers can be purchased pre-printed from a variety of places on the internet. A screen printed transfer can run anywhere from a few dollars to a few cents. Some transfer houses allow you to supply your own artwork as well as choose from thousands of in-stock designs they already have printed.

*Screen printed transfers can be transferred on light or dark shirts.

2. Inkjet Heat Transfers

An inkjet heat transfer is printed using any inkjet printer and inkjet heat transfer paper. Inkjet transfers are great for on teh spot custom and full color work. Standard inkjet transfers do not last as long as screen printed transfers but if you use a special ink called Chromablast transfer ink through special Epson or Ricoh printers you can get high quality inkjef transfers that last as long as any t-shirt!

*Inkjet transfers can only be applied to white or light shirts.

3. Vinyl Heat Transfers or Cad Cut Transfers

Vinyl transfers can be made by using a special heat transfer vinyl and a vinyl plotter. The plotter cuts out the heat transfer vinyl and the vinyl is then transferred onto a shirt using a heat press.

Vinyl transfers are great for names, numbers and will work on light and dark shirts.

4. Sublimation Heat Transfers

Sublimation transfers are printed by using an Epson sublimation printer and a special sublimation ink. Sublimation ink turns into a gas under a heat press. Sublimation can only occur on polyester fabric or polyester coated items. The polymer opens under heat and receives the gas, as soon as heat is released, sublimation is complete impressed on the item.

Sublimation works on polyester fabrics and polymer coated items.
